CSA
certified explosion-proof wall mount air conditioners are
the typical choice by most analyzer systems integrators desiring
a single package to provide cooling, heating, positive pressurization,
and make-up air for ventilation and dilution.
For
smaller shelters, room air conditioners with cooling capacities
up to 3 tons and with a separate vent fan is an economical
choice.

Application
1:
An air conditioning system with dual pressurization
was required for a large analyzer shelter with a high
interior heat load and limited wall space.
A
10 ton vertical packaged air conditioner was designed
with dual blowers and for close coupling to the analyzer
shelter. A seven-day automatic timer was included in
the control panel to allow equal running time on each
blower.
The
system was rated Class I, Division 2, Groups C, D.

Application
2:
Analyzer shelters destined for South America required
an I.E.C. Zone 2 flameproof rating. Heating, cooling,
and fresh air make-up were required.
Two-ton
model WCBF023 air conditioners were manufactured to
comply with I.E.C. standards. Flameproof motors with
"de" type protection were used for the evaporator
and condenser sections. The controls enclosure had type
"d" protection and the thermostats were provided
with intrinsic safety protection.
Certified
flameproof heaters mounted indoors and over the supply
air discharge into the room completed the installation.
A
certificate of compliance, although not required for
Zone 2, was provided by a third party inspection agency.
Certificates of Conformity were provided on all rated
component parts.

3:
Wall space was at a premium for this analyzer shelter.
Heating, cooling, and ventilation was needed and two
air conditioners were requested for redundancy.
Two
wall mount air conditioners with built-in division 2
electric heat and an explosion proof control panel were
provided. The units were ducted together with a common
fresh air intake and back-draft dampers. The controls
were arranged to provide first and second staging with
a manual selector to alternate between the two units.

4:
An analyzer building was to be installed in a highly
corrosive, hazardous atmosphere and the building was
specified to be constructed of glass fiber reinforced
concrete.
A
Class I, Division 2, WCBX series wall mount air conditioner
was manufactured in stainless steel with Marc's urethane
coating on coils, tubing, compressor, motors, and other
items not constructed in stainless.
A
WSFX-DB series dual wall mount supply fan with stainless
steel cabinet was furnished to provide continuous ventilation
with one fan running and the second fan in the standby
mode.
To
secure the air conditioner and fan to the concrete building,
Marc furnished mounting frames for precasting into the
building walls.
The
air conditioner in the picture at right has a service
panel removed for power wiring during installation.

5:
A free-standing and fully redundant system was required
as the customer had no wall space for two air conditioners
and preferred to install the air conditioning system
separately from the analyzer shelter.
Custom
5 and 10 Ton Packaged Units were designed and furnished
to provide dual air conditioning and ventilation systems
in a single cabinet.
Each
unit included gas-phase air filtration, dehumidification,
humidifiers, dual ventilation blowers, and 100 percent
redundant air conditioning and heating systems.
Two explosion proof disconnects were installed on each
cabinet. With dual built-in control sections,
each unit was provided with a separate thermostatic
control panel for mounting inside the shelter.
In
addition, each unit received a complete corrosion coating
to include coils, tubing, cabinet, etc. The cabinet
was painted in accordance with the customer's color
specification.
Each
unit was CSA certified for Class I, Division 2, Groups,
B,C,D hazardous locations.
